This post started as a 2017 resolutions list and it mutated into something else. I had to consolidate, revise, retool, and ended up with a set of goals and projects for 2017. I’m saying goals and projects since I feel that resolutions have gotten a bad wrap over the years. Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone that’s actually accomplished their “New Years Resolutions” successfully. If you have, drop me a line on Twitter @TheKuroKuma, would love to hear about it.
Now, to the meat and potatoes of this brain dump/endless ranting which will end at some point. Heck, maybe I might inspire you to get that project you’ve been working on finished.
Streaming Schedule & Becoming a Twitch Partner
I’ve been streaming on and off over the last year. I get into short spurs in month intervals where I stream on a regular basis, then burn out. I think starting with a three day a week schedule is a good starting point. Here’s what I plan from January 10, 2017 to April 1, 2017:
- Tuesdays starting at 7:30PM San Francisco time/Wednesday 3:30AM GMT
- Thursdays starting at 7:30PM San Francisco time/Wednesday 3:30AM GMT
- Sundays starting at 9:00PM San Francisco time/Monday 5:00AM GMT
This should give me time for work, keep a regular stream schedule, mod for Lexi and Hunter’s channels, produce content, and ultimately grow the channel. Taking these steps, I hope to be able to apply for Twitch partnership and be accepted. This is the milestone to take things to the next level.
Write & Post One Article a Week
I’ve been slowly building up this site and feel that it can be more. The most popular posts are the how-to’s on unsubscribing from a Twitch channel and using Twitch Prime, these have attracted lots of traffic and are great gateways to gaining new readers. Besides the how-to’s and calendar wallpapers featuring SF Giants players, I use to write about my week. I’m thinking of taking a different approach and sharing the various articles I come across while browsing the web and offer some commentary. Sort of like my weekly digest of the random stuff that I bookmark and open a tab for (and subsequently forget to close bogging down my laptop). One section I will be keeping will be featuring an Instagram account of someone I follow that I enjoy and want to promote (see end of post for this weeks).
Drop 53 lbs.
Getting old is a blessing and a curse. Getting older has led to increasing my knowledge, meeting new awesome people, experience new things, and just become more bad assed. The downside, the aches, the occasional restless night, more responsibilities, being an adult. But most of all dropping the weight you accumulate during the trips around the sun. I’m aiming to make this a lifestyle change rather than something short term.
Plan of attack get on the stationary bike and watching what I eat. There was a time a few years ago where biking and keeping track of my progress was an addiction. I think I’ll have to gamify it, throw all the data into a database, link it to twitch chat and have fun with it. The other part of this was that I was sticking to a strict diet of salad with an occasional “cheat day”. I think between moving around regularly and being aware of what I eat will get me on the right track. Also, I’ll probably have to make it into a competition with Lexi, Jessika, and Ray to see who’s kicking ass on a daily and weekly cycle.
3,000 Instagram and Twitter followers
My social media accounts have been growing over the past year. Its been fun sharing with my followers what I’ve been up to, my thoughts, and photos I’ve been taking while trying to improve my photography skills. In all honesty, I’m happy that people even follow me on social media no matter the numbers. But, I’m someone that likes to learn and advance my skills. One way of doing that is by learning and setting goals.
Over the last 5 years I’ve been playing with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and that knowledge has allowed me to grow the site and gain healthy daily traffic. I’d like to take that enthusiasm in learning and apply it to my social accounts and be able to grow them. One subgoal of those new followers on Twitter and Instagram would be the San Francisco Giants.
Migrate Site to AWS & Fresh Coat of Paint
The site is currently running on GoDaddy and it’s constantly hitting resource limits where publishing a simple post takes the site offline and I get an email from GoDaddy that I should pay them more money to increase my resources, no thanks. This constant bottleneck got old very quick. I’ve been meaning to migrate everything over to AWS and it’s suite of fabulous products (albeit pricier than Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform offerings) in the last few months. This is something that would provide benefit to you as the reader and myself. For the reader, faster load times, more frequent posts, and an overall better experience visiting the site. I myself would be learning a new skill and most likely write about my experiences migrating to the AWS infrastructure.
A fresh coat of paint for the site means giving the site a new look and better serving you the reader. A fresh look and optimization the site for mobile would be the main focus of this portion of the project.
